Belgian IBAN structure
A Belgian IBAN has 16 characters: the country code BE, two check digits, then the BBAN, which is made up of the following: 3-digit bank code, 7-digit account number and 2 national check digits.
| Position | Length | Content | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1–2 | 2 letters | ■ Country code | BE |
| 3–4 | 2 digits | ■ IBAN check digits | 05 |
| 5–7 | 3 digits | ■ Bank code | 945 |
| 8–14 | 7 digits | ■ Account number | 8632453 |
| 15–16 | 2 digits | ■ National check | 75 |
Good to know
The last two digits are Belgium's national check: the first 10 digits modulo 97, with 97 used when the remainder is 0. This generator computes them, so the IBANs also pass the Belgian account check. At 16 characters, Belgian IBANs are among the shortest in Europe.

Frequently asked questions
Belgium: are these real IBANs?
No. The bank and account codes are random. The IBAN passes format and check-digit validation, but no bank or account holder is behind it, and a transfer would be rejected.
Belgium: how many characters does an IBAN have?
Always 16: BE, two check digits and a 12-character BBAN. Any other length is invalid.
Belgium: do the IBANs pass national checks?
Yes. On top of the IBAN check digits, the generator computes the national check, so the numbers pass both.
