Italian IBAN structure

A Italian IBAN has 27 characters: the country code IT, two check digits, then the BBAN, which is made up of the following: 1-letter national check character (CIN), 5-digit ABI bank code, 5-digit CAB branch code and 12-character account number.

Good to know

The CIN letter is computed from the ABI, CAB and account number using two lookup tables for odd and even positions. This generator computes it, so the IBANs pass both the IBAN check and the Italian CIN check. San Marino uses the same format.

Frequently asked questions

Italy: are these real IBANs?

No. The bank and account codes are random. The IBAN passes format and check-digit validation, but no bank or account holder is behind it, and a transfer would be rejected.

Italy: how many characters does an IBAN have?

Always 27: IT, two check digits and a 23-character BBAN. Any other length is invalid.

Italy: do the IBANs pass national checks?

Yes. On top of the IBAN check digits, the generator computes the national check, so the numbers pass both.
