Spanish IBAN structure

A Spanish IBAN has 24 characters: the country code ES, two check digits, then the BBAN, which is made up of the following: 4-digit bank code (entidad), 4-digit branch code (oficina), 2 national check digits (DC) and a 10-digit account number.

Good to know

The two DC digits are Spain's own checksum: the first validates the bank and branch, the second the account number, both with a weighted modulo 11 formula. This generator computes both, so the IBANs also pass the Spanish CCC check.

Frequently asked questions

Spain: are these real IBANs?

No. The bank and account codes are random. The IBAN passes format and check-digit validation, but no bank or account holder is behind it, and a transfer would be rejected.

Spain: how many characters does an IBAN have?

Always 24: ES, two check digits and a 20-character BBAN. Any other length is invalid.

Spain: do the IBANs pass national checks?

Yes. On top of the IBAN check digits, the generator computes the national check, so the numbers pass both.
