Swiss IBAN structure
A Swiss IBAN has 21 characters: the country code CH, two check digits, then the BBAN, which is made up of the following: 5-digit bank clearing number (IID) followed by a 12-character account number.
| Position | Length | Content | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1–2 | 2 letters | ■ Country code | CH |
| 3–4 | 2 digits | ■ IBAN check digits | 21 |
| 5–9 | 5 digits | ■ Bank code | 41851 |
| 10–21 | 12 alphanumeric characters | ■ Account number | 401736305DX6 |
Good to know
Swiss IBANs whose IID falls between 30000 and 31999 are QR-IBANs, reserved for QR-bill payments with a structured reference. This generator picks random IIDs, so some results can land in that range; if you are testing QR-bills, check which kind your system expects. Liechtenstein uses the same structure.
To check an existing IBAN, use the validator on the home page.
Frequently asked questions
Switzerland: are these real IBANs?
No. The bank and account codes are random. The IBAN passes format and check-digit validation, but no bank or account holder is behind it, and a transfer would be rejected.
Switzerland: how many characters does an IBAN have?
Always 21: CH, two check digits and a 17-character BBAN. Any other length is invalid.
Switzerland: do the IBANs pass national checks?
The IBAN check digits are always valid and the structure follows the national format, but bank-specific account checks are not guaranteed (see “Good to know”).
